Etsy, Things I Love

You’ve Got Happy Mail {Unboxing and Small Shop Love}

I love happy mail.

Like a lot. Perhaps, my love affair dates back to the days when my Dad was stationed in some far off place and sent us mail. It was nice to receive a letter from him and occasionally stickers. One time he sent stickers that came in a cookie package, they smelled so heavenly. I also fondly remember the days of I Can Read books in the mail when I was younger. Those mail days always made me happy. When I was older my parents were part of a music mail service, do you remember those? You were able to pick out X amount of CDs each month or every 3 months, I don’t completely remember, but it was awesome. My parents chose their CDs and my brother and I chose ours (my older siblings were grown and out of the house at the time).

via GIPHY

Perchance that’s why I was an early adopter to Netflix? I was a part of Netflix before Netflix was all digital and chill. Do you remember that? Jiminy Cricket I’m sounding really old right now, aren’t I? 🙂 The best happy mail that I received was from my husband. When he would send us (my oldest daughter and I) letters and random surprises while he was in Iraq, those surprises helped keep me going. I wrote to him like one would drink water. If my writing was not sent to him, it was in the book. I wrote pretty much every single day he was gone in a book to document our life while he was away.

You’ve got happy mail

I live faraway from family and friends, happy mail is a distant hug that I need from time to time. Thankfully, I have friends and some family members who love to spread happiness in the mail, so I’m sending and receiving mail often-ish. 🙂 I’m definitely sending out mail seasonally- I just wrote about that here. Today I want to share a recent happy mail box I received. If you’re a happy mail lover, you’re going to swoon over this. You know I did.

A few weeks back I entered a Happy Mail loop giveaway on Instagram. I honestly didn’t think the odds were in my favor. However,  I decided to give it a try because all the shops in the giveaway are awesome and obviously they share the same affinity for happy mail as I do.

Dani from Big Hugs Little Envelopes tagged me on Instagram to let me know I won on a Saturday morning. Saturday + Happy Mail Giveaway Win= Happy Saturday Happy Mail Happy Dance! And I mean like MC Hammer style running man. (Again with the dating myself!)

Are you ready to see what I got?

Before I share all of my goodies… Happy 2 Years in Business, Big Hugs Little Envelopes (BHLE)! (That was the reason for this giveaway. 🙂 )

Dani, the lady behind Big Hugs Little Envelope, is such a sweetheart by the way. She’s a super supporter in the small business community and in her own community. I’m enjoying getting to know Dani via Instagram. 🙂 You may want to follow her there. But I think you’ll certainly wanna check out her shop. “My shop quickly grew beyond greeting cards, and I now feature all sorts of items that are designed to spread kindness and love.” <- You’ve got to get behind that!

BHLE sent me three sticker pages, a set of happy mail cards, pens, and BHLE lip balm. The super cute lip balm holder is courtesy of Brite Designs Studio .

These cards by Tiny Gang Designs are just too adorable, right? A special teacher received the fish card. 🙂

I had fallen in love with Dani’s envelope earrings when she shared them on Instagram, so I was quite excited that I won my own pair from Obsessories LA.

Brite Designs also sent these goodies a notepad that has already been put to use and these lovely handmade cards.

A girl loves stamps. 😉 I’m the girl and I love stamps.  I have quite the collection. I’m happy to add Bossy Joscie‘s Happy Mail stamps to my collection.

Glossies Made Me Do It {Button Pins, Instyle & Sarah Silverman}

Glossies Made Me Do It {Button Pins, Instyle Magazine & Sarah Silverman}

I have wanted to join Glossies Made Me Do It for a few months. Glossies Made Me Do It is a monthly linkup hosted by Ashley, Lauren and Erika, these wonderful ladies encourage you to allow a magazine (glossie) to inspire you and share how that magazine inspired you. For instance this month Ashley was inspired by Redbook  to try out this fruit galette recipe, she put her own spin on it.

Glossies Made Me Do It! Button Pins, InStyle Magazine and Sarah SilvermanWhat did glossies make me do this month?

This month I received a FREE InStyle magazine, I don’t know why, or who sent it, but I am thankful that I received it. I haven’t purchased an InStyle magazine for a couple years, so it was a nice change of pace. Well, sort of. When I opened it up and looked through the first couple of pictures I felt a little out of style. I instantly wanted to change and maybe add a little color to my face. However, I dived a little deeper into the magazine and started to read an article that grabbed my attention instantly.

Sarah Silverman and InStyle Magazine

via GIPHY

You must note here that the TV is was on in the background, last week’s RHONY played. I was waiting to get to the part I had left off at last time I had tried to watch it. It was currently at the part where Carole and her mom were canvassing Pennsylvania for HRC votes. It was like fate or something, because the article I was about to get swept into was about Sarah Silverman and her mother. In the article Sarah Silverman speaks about how her mother influenced her own activism. She speaks of how her mother was always active in politics putting her voice out there and sporting the most fabulous button pins to continue spreading the word.

Sarah Silverman has certainly carried on her mother’s love for staying informed and engaged when it comes to politics. If you take a look through  her Twitter, you’ll see that she’s quite fired up when it comes to tackling politics. Sadly, Silverman lost her mother, but she still holds on to her mother’s memories, which includes her mother’s button pin collection.

There were two takeaways from this article for me: 1) I need to do more. I need to make sure my actions and words spark something within my daughters the way Sarah’s mom (and Carole’s mom) did. 2) I want to collect a super rad button collection.

Glossies Made Me Do It

I’m working on the takeaways. I even started checking out some buttons on Etsy, to get my collection going. I haven’t purchased any yet, but trust me, it’s going to happen. The thing about selling on Etsy, you end up spending on Etsy. 😀

It’s a Happy Mail Fiesta!!

It’s a Happy Mail Fiesta! Sadly, there will be no margaritas. But we will have happy mail, coffee, candy, and other fun goodies. I know one thing that will definitely be at this party, good company. I’m hosting this fiesta with my dear friend and fellow happy mail lover, Ashely of Happy Pretty Sweet. Ashley and I are coming up on one year of hosting our seasonal blogger box swap!! We started this swap last summer and I have to admit it’s been tons of fun. ANNNND the last two swaps were international (U.S and Canada). 🙂

#SPBoxSwap SPRING Blogger-to-blogger box swap

I was partnered-up with Carly-Ann. 🙂 She writes about her life’s happenings over on her blog TDTFYH (The Day to Follow Your Heart). It’s been enjoyable getting to know more about Carly-Ann through her blog and her Instagram. I also got to find out a few things about Carly-Ann via good o’email. My intent was to send things based on what I learned about her. I hope I did a good job. 🙂

What's inside the box Sweet Progress Box Swap Reveal {Happy Mail}

Fun fact: This was my first time having an international swap partner. 🙂 Getting my box to Carly-Ann was an event, as it was for her to get hers to me. Although, I think maybe, just maybe, the Canadian post may have their process a little more put together than ours here in the U.S. Yup, I said it. Anyway, when Carly-Ann’s box showed up I was super excited. SHE. DID. NOT. DISAPPOINT.

You can already tell that this box was packaged with warmth and kindness, right? Me too. 🙂 Are you ready to check out my goodies?

Of course you are!!

via GIPHY

My goodies:

  • Starbucks Vancouver Mug “You are here collection
  • I <3 Van Coasters
  • Starbucks Canada Gift Card
  • Orange Zest Essential Oil Candles
  • {Magical} Saje Peppermint Halo
  • Cute Bunny Ring Holder
  • Coffee Crisp
  • Kleenex

via GIPHY

I REALLY LOVE COFFEE. My affinity for coffee gave Carly-Ann some yummy inspiration. 🙂 She totally spoiled me with coffee goodies. Let’s start off with my new Vancouver mug!! I’ve been eyeing-up the Seattle one at my local Starbucks. When I was opening up the box at first I thought it was the Seattle mug, but I quickly realized even cooler it’s VANCOUVER! I haven’t visited Canada yet, this will certainly serve as daily inspiration to finally go. It’s not like Canada is too far from me, I’m only about 2 hours away from Vancouver. 🙂 Cool, huh?

The coasters will come in handy, because kids, amiright? You can never go wrong with a Starbucks gift card, I’ve said that countless times, but I know for sure I’ve said it here. The Coffee Crisp are new to me, they’re a Canadian chocolate bar made with wafer, chocolate, and of course coffee flavoring. Turns out you can find these in the U.S, but they’re not readily available everywhere. However, you know good o’Amazon has your back.

Oh Happy Mail!

The little bunny ring holder is TOO cute!  What better represents spring than a bunny? Oh and Kleenex totally screams spring to me, because kiddos with allergies.  I’m totally IN LOVE with Saje Peppermint Halo Headache Remedy roll on ( <-this is not an affiliate link, this is a get-yourself-some-of-this-magic link, because this stuff is the you know what!) I joked to my kids saying Carly-Ann sent it to me because I have kids. 😀 Carly-Ann wrote in her sweet letter explaining all my gifts that this blend is also good for any kind of pain and clarity. I couldn’t agree more, Carly-Ann! I’ve been using it like I’m going to lose it. Love it. I totally believe in the power of peppermint and lavender (wrote about that here)… and rosemary too! I haven’t used the candles yet, but the already smell heavenly. 🙂

via GIPHY

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR EVERYTHING, Carly Ann!!

You sincerely blew me away with your sweet and thoughtful box. I love everything including the darling card and handwritten letter. I can’t believe I forgot to take a picture of the card!! Anyway, you made me so happy. Happy Mail, indeed. (Also, I thought it was funny that you and I had a few somewhat similar items for each other.) You can see what I sent Carly-Ann here.

Get Your Frida On

DIY Frida Kahlo Inspired Flower Headband

I gather it’s not a secret that I absolutely adore Frida Kahlo. Right? I have shared with you one of my favorite necklaces (that has her beautiful face), you’ve seen  my art, which is obviously inspired by her, and then there’s my Etsy shop where I have quite a few Frida quotes in stock. 🙂  So, it should not come as a surprise that I sometimes go down a Frida rabbit hole while I’m scrolling through Pinterest. There are so many fun goodies and inspiration out there all in honor of Frida. And that doesn’t shock me at all.

Frida has and will continue to be an inspiration to girls and women. She’s truly a symbol of strength and endurance defeating odds, while of course doing what she loved. I can totally stand behind that.

My Girls Mrs. AOK, A Work In Progress
Anyway, where I was going with this…? OH YES.. Pinterest! Pinterest has such beautiful Frida inspired goodies. One thing I noticed  are all the beautiful Frida Flower Crown Headbands, but some of them were crazy expensive! I’ve seen some of these babies go for over 60 DOLLARS. DID YOU HEAR ME? I said OVER SIXTY DOLLARS!! That’s insane for this frugal pants. I even found a few OVER $100, but, in fairness, those ones were a little more intricate. I wouldn’t say they are more elaborate than Beyonce’s hairpiece:

💙Inaugural Wearable Art Gala in support of WACO Theater Center 💙

A post shared by Beyoncé (@beyonce) on

Now, I can’t promise you a Beyoncé crown, but I can show you how to save a few bucks making your own DIY Frida Khalo Inspired Flower Headband/Crown. All you’ll need is a trip to the Dollar Tree and Michaels or whichever you like most. 🙂 I’m fans of both, so I went to both.

DIY Frida Kahlo Inspired Headband’S’ under $10

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own Frida Kahlo Inspired Headbands:

  • Supplies you will need for a simple and inexpensive Frida Kahlo inspired Frida Headband crownHead Bands
  • Flowers
  • Glue Gun and Glue sticks
  • Wire cutters or really tough scissors

This was the first time I used this type of headband to make a flower headband. Oh, yes, I’ve done this before. Some of you may not know this, but I use to make pretty little girly headbands and the occasional tutu on Etsy. I really didn’t do too hot there. However, I sold quite a few of them locally. 🙂 That’s why I started the Etsy thing, but I really didn’t know what I was doing and I was in WAAYYY over my head. If only I knew what I know now.

Let’s get back on track. DIY Frida Kahlo Flower Headband

These head bands can be found at Dollar Tree for $1. 3 head bands for $1. I wasn’t sure if I was going to love or hate the open squares. I figured this may make things easier when trying to arrange the flowers, so I grabbed them. (Also, my daughter’s like the way they grab their hair. No slipping.)

Notice those tiny little hands below? Those aren’t mine. 🙂 Those are my daughter’s, she’s 11 (she’s also the cutie in the picture above in the Halloween tutu. Eh… time flies.), she made her own Frida Inspired Pink Flower Headband /Crown with very little help.

Most Dollar Trees have a floral section where you can find bright florals, but I knew the color scheme I wanted, so I headed to Michaels for my flowers. Plus I had a coupon and there was 50% off of spring florals. I even got flowers for $1!! (Full disclosure: I own a few glue guns and I probably have missing fingerprints 😀 ) My daughter and I had so much fun making these beauties.

But how do you do it, Dean?

Truly it’s quite simple. You can snip the stems completely off (keep some of the leaves!) or if you want to keep the stems on because you’re using these handy dandy head bands from Dollar Tree you can keep the stems on and snip ’em later. I went that route. 😉  (Make sure to snip as much as you can off, I was able to remove all the way to the green of the flower. I know you can’t tell in this picture, but it’s totally doable.)

Try to add a little glue between flowers to help keep them together. Occasionally if you want to wrap a petal to the headband that helps too. I made sure to apply a good amount of glue in a circle around the base of the flower before attaching to the headband. We added a few leaves to the headbands, I also added flowers on the back of the headband to cover up any open spots. Can you tell which flowers cost me a dollar?

That’s it, you’re done. Well, wait there’s one more thing, glue cleanup.

Hot Glue Tip:

Clean up the random strings of hot glue using a blowdryer. 🙂 It works!

We even made a baby Frida flower headband, but sadly, there isn’t a cute picture of a baby. 🙁 Does a cute stuffed animal work?

This is even more simple and SUPER CHEAP. 🙂 Grab an old pair or new pair of knee high stockings cut about 2-3 inches off. Roll it the strip in your hand it will instantly roll into a little headband. Glue on a few flowers and a leaf or two, add some felt to the back of the headband if you’d like. DONE.

I made this one too 🙂 It’s been awhile since I’ve weaved a headband. Would you like to learn how to do that?

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE if you made your own Frida Inspired Flower Crown. If you do can I see it? 🙂

On another note do you have a favorite Frida quote?

Currently wishing that you would check out this month’s posts. 🙂

I shared Two Truths and a Lie Part 1 and Part 2 (The Whole Truth).

I’ve been busy over on my other blog with Phyllis: Living a Positive Lifestyle. You may want to check out some of the posts I’ve posted over there, too. 🙂

Working

On me! That’s right, this lady needs all the work. I’ve been really trying to stick to being more positive, which means self-care, gratitude and trying oh so hard to filter out the negative. Seriously, it’s hard to filter out the negative.

Along with trying to keep things positive, I’ve been doing pretty good at keeping up with my kettlebell workouts. I could use some more work on organization and I need to work on my ETSY SHOP. I’ve been a slacker there and on my shop’s Instagram account. I’m always a work in progress. 😉

But you know what’s not work? Happy Mail. 🙂 I was so happy to receive this complimentary Charm VoxBox from Influenster.

Currently loving this Charm Voxbox

Here’s what was inside my box of FREE goodies:

I currently do not own perfume, so these samples were perfect, because they gave me an opportunity to explore if Vera Wang was for me. Influenster sent me Embrace Marigold and Gardenia and Embrace Rose Buds and Vanilla. I love all things vanilla ( 😀 TWHS ), so I thought naturally I’d gravitate to the Rose Buds & Vanilla, but actually, I think I like Marigold and Gardenia more. With the name Embrace Marigold and Gardenia you may think it smells like straight up flowers, but really it doesn’t. It’s light with a sweet musk, I love it.

The Wet N’ Wild 1 Step Wonder Gel Nail Polish {Periwinkle} was the perfect shade to match this beauty….

THE UNICORN FRAPPUCCINO

I’m going to let you in on a little secret, and this big because I’m a Starbucks shareholder, but I think we like the nail polish better. My daughter’s nails look so pretty and shiny;  she is totally happy with the polish. The drink, it’s good, but it’s a little too much for me. PLUS, there’s no coffee! However, it’s awfully gorgeous. 🙂

Okay, Ifluenster won me over with EVA NYC! I’ve never tried this brand before, but I’m in! I loved both the shampoo and hair mask. I do NOT wash my hair every day, I have crazy curly hair it, that’s just not good for it.  The Clean It Up Shampoo gives a GOOOOOD clean to my hair and the mask helps to moisturize. I’m loving my curls right now. 🙂

Can you go wrong with Natural NO SUGAR ADDED Mott’s? My son’s answer: NO! He gobbled that pouch up before practice. 🙂

Sending ME taco mix is kind of funny. 🙂 No? I appreciated that the mix was organic. I used the mix this week, TACO TUESDAY! The tacos were a hit, but they always are. I can’t tell you it was solely the mix, because I always add my own flair, but I’m sure the taco mix helped. 😉

These PEEPS Delights were a hit! I didn’t have any, but I hear they were yummy. 🙂
